Anna Turbau. En veu pròpia delves into the personal universe of one of the pioneers of Catalan photojournalism and presents a selection of previously unseen photographs from her archive. Defined by social commitment, sensitivity and a close connection with the people she photographed, her work portrays a period of profound social, cultural and political transformation.

Anna Turbau (Barcelona, 1949–2025) belonged to the generation of photographers who, during Spain’s transition to democracy, developed a committed and socially engaged form of photojournalism that exposed injustice. With a renewed and activist visual language, she brought visibility to social mobilisations and the struggle for freedom, moving away from the more humanist documentary tradition practised by the generation of the 1960s.

Her photographs document Spain’s turbulent transition to democracy, popular struggles, demonstrations, and the social and cultural movements that emerged with force after decades of silence and repression.

Curated by Adra Pallón, Maria Planas and Sílvia Omedes, the exhibition brings together a selection of images that reassert the perspective of an essential photographer for understanding the evolution of contemporary photojournalism and Spain’s recent history.

Since 2023, the Photographic Social Vision Foundation has represented the Anna Turbau Archive and has been working on its conservation, cataloguing, digitisation and dissemination, with the aim of preserving and raising awareness of the legacy of one of the most distinctive voices in Spanish documentary photography.

Anna Turbau (Barcelona, 1949–2025) forma part de la generació de fotògrafs i fotògrafes que, durant la Transició espanyola, va desenvolupar un fotoperiodisme compromès i de denúncia. Amb un llenguatge visual renovat i militant, va donar visibilitat a les mobilitzacions socials i a la lluita per les llibertats, allunyant-se del documentalisme més humanista practicat per la generació dels anys seixanta.

Les seves fotografies documenten la convulsa transició democràtica espanyola, les lluites populars, les manifestacions i els moviments socials i culturals que van emergir amb força després de dècades de silenci i repressió.

Comissariada per Adra Pallón, Maria Planas i Sílvia Omedes, l’exposició reuneix una selecció d’imatges que recuperen la mirada d’una autora fonamental per comprendre l’evolució del fotoperiodisme contemporani i la història recent d’Espanya.

Des del 2023, la Fundació Photographic Social Vision representa l’arxiu d’Anna Turbau i treballa en la seva conservació, catalogació, digitalització i difusió, amb l’objectiu de preservar i donar a conèixer el llegat d’una de les veus més singulars de la fotografia documental espanyola.
