From June 11 to 13, 2026, we celebrated the second edition of LASAL, the Mediterranean Festival of Journalism and Photography, in El Masnou (Barcelona), which we co-organized with other leading organizations in the photography sector.
The festival, which defends quality journalism and documentary photography, expanded its program in this second edition with debates, workshops, exhibitions, and book presentations to bring together photographers, journalists, students, documentary filmmakers, and the public interested in the world around us, addressing such important issues as the war in Gaza, the climate crisis, migration, and disinformation.
One of the highlights will be the discussion about the situation in Gaza, moderated by the actor Eduard Fernández, with the participation of Palestinian journalist Kayed Hammad and photographer Dalia Hammad, father and daughter, who documented their survival of Israeli attacks through the dishes they managed to cook each day, as featured in “Menu of Gaza”, a project that won the awards Ortega y Gasset and Zampa.
The fight against hoaxes and disinformation will be a central theme of the festival, with activities such as the workshop “The Hoax Library: How Hoaxes Are Born (and How to Stop Them)”, organized by the Maldita.es Foundation, and the debate “Between Hoaxes and Facts” with the journalist Carles Tamayo.
Talks will include “RIP Mare Nostrum”, with journalists Xavier Aldekoa and Laura Aragó from La Vanguardia; “How to keep a print media alive”, with Esther Vera, director of the Ara newspaper, and Agus Morales, director of the 5W magazine; or “How to photograph fires”, with documentary photographer Brais Lorenzo, partner of our Foundation and recent winner of a World Press Photo.
In addition, at the English-language roundtable discussion “Climate as a Cross-Border Story”, international journalists Rawan Damen (Arij), Cecilia Anesi (Irpi), and Supriya Sharma (The Scroll) will explain the innovative ways they approach reporting on climate change, moderated by Preethi Nallu (Report For The World).
The books Open Arms: A Mission Against the Current, showcasing the work of more than 40 photojournalists on the maritime rescue NGO, will also be presented, with its founder, Óscar Camps, in attendance; as will Bukele: The Naked King, about the authoritarian measures of the president of El Salvador, with its author, journalist Óscar Martínez of El Faro.
There will be photographic interventions in the urban space, a photo market, an open-air cyanotype workshop for the whole family, and screenings on Ocata Beach, curated by Sonda Internacional, featuring works by artists such as Sandra Balsells.
At Cinema La Calàndria, the finalist projects for the 5th Zampa Photojournalism Award will be screened, presented live by their authors. There will also be spaces for professionals such as the “Funding for Journalists” workshop on funding and the Photographic Portfolio Review Sessions (this one is already sold out).
