The World Press Photo Barcelona exhibition, organized annually by the Photographic Social Vision Foundation, can be visited in 2023 from November 10 to December 17 at the CCCB.
In this edition we will learn about global news about the environment, conflicts, migrations, social inequality and gender issues, along with stories of resilience. And, as usual, the Photographic Foundation organizes activities with the aim of expanding the public’s experience, providing the opportunity to delve into some of these topics, as well as to generate debate about current values and challenges of photojournalism.
Here we present the complementary activities with which Photographic Social Vision proposes to delve deeper into the themes of the winning projects with the award-winning authors.

César Dezfuli and how to explain migrations through journalism
On November 18, César Dezfuli, winner of a World Press Photo 2023 in the Open Format category of the European region with “Passengers”, will talk with journalist Agus Morales, director of Revista 5W, as part of the programming of the XV Jornades de Fotografia del Masnou.
Under the title “Narrative and photographic tools to explain migrations“, the event is included in the Conversations about Photojournalism of the Masnou photographic days, an essential specialized meeting held in this coastal town near the city of Barcelona.
The appointment is at 12 noon. at the La Calàndria cinema (Dr. Josep Agell st., 7) in Masnou.
Lee-Ann Olwage and how to treat mental health through photography
On November 20, South African photographer Lee-Ann Olwage, winner of a World Press Photo 2023 in the Singles category of the African region with the project “The Big Forget”, will participate in a talk about photography and mental health.
The author will present her project, which explains how dementia and other mental disorders are confused with signs of witchcraft in certain areas of Africa and how this stigma can be combated and help people suffering from mental illnesses. Next, she will talk with Mireia Plans, photographer, artistic mediator, teacher and member of the educational area of Photographic Social Vision, about how our societies deal with mental health and what photography can contribute to common well-being.

Debate about the use of information as a war weapon
On December 11, a round table will be held under the title “El fotoperiodismo en conflictos armados. Cuando la información es un arma de guerra” (Photojournalism in armed conflicts. When information is a war weapon).
Two members of the Photography team of Associated Press (AP), awarded this year with the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the Ukraine conflict, will participate in the debate. They are Enric Martí, editor-in-chief of the AP photography department, and photographer Bernat Armangué, both with experience in conflicts around the world and winners of a World Press Photo award in previous editions of the contest. We will also have in the round table Anna Surinyach, the photojournalist and graphic editor of Revista 5W, and Iván M. García, journalist and Media Manager of Médicos Sin Fronteras, (MSF) Spain, the renowned humanitarian aid NGO that has became one of the few sources of information from inside Gaza during the war that Israel is currently waging in Palestine.
The debate will be moderated by Txell Feixas, journalist and former correspondent for TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio in Beirut.
