Jordi Ferrer Cortijo (Barcelona 1960)

• Initial stage in photography with the photographer Francesc Català Roca.
• Studies at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya and the IDEP school in Barcelona.
• Photojournalism scholarship from the Generalitat of Catalonia: Master Classes with photographers from the Magnum Agency: Patrick Zackman, Susan Meiselas, Helliot Erwitt and Christian Cajoul, creator of the Vú Agency.
• Graduated in Documentary Filmmaking from the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya, ESCAC.
• Six years as director of studies at the CEV (Center for Visual Studies) school in Barcelona and a teacher in the areas of Creativity, Composition, Photojournalism, and ENG (television news).

• Production for Eduardo Punset’s program REDES.
• Creation of a photography workshop at the Modelo prison in Barcelona. Photo report “The Slow Years” selected for the Visa Pour l’Image International Photojournalism Festival in Perpignan.

Documentary Short Film

• El viaje de Pablo (Pablo’s Journey): The life of a paraplegic boy after a traffic accident and his transfer with his family to the Guttmann Institute in Barcelona for treatment.
• El oasis (The Oasis): Filmed over seven years in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf Desert, Algeria. Nearly 200,000 people live in the Algerian Hamada, one of the most inhospitable places in the world and known as the desert within the desert.
• La muerte en silencio (Death in Silence): Filming of the aftermath of Hurricane Stan, which devastated northern Guatemala, killing entire families. According to UNICEF, this is the worst disaster in Central America and Mexico since 1998.
