Alex Llovet
Barcelona, 1974
I have had to go halfway around the world to understand that what I wanted to photograph is around my own home, and that my work turns about the themes of identity and memory.
Alex studied humanities at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), cinematography at the former Escola de Cinema Independent de Barcelona (ECIB), and photography at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC). Since then he has written and directed several short films, published photographs in specialized journals and newspapers, participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions and in photography festivals such as Nexofoto, DOCfield, Encontros de Imagen, the Olot Fotografía biennial, Revala-T, and Focus Photography. His work has won numerous awards and distinctions, including an honourable mention at Nexofoto, Best New Photographer at the Photogenic Festival, and the selection of his work for the Espy Photo Award, the Photographic Museum of Humanity, the Athens Photo Festival, the Barcelona International Photography Award, SCAN de Tarragona, and Encontros da Imagen. He has published two books of his photographs: Querido vecino (2014) and Faraway so close (2016).
In addition to being a photographer, Alex is also a musician. In 2001 he adopted the stage name Professor Manso (Prof. Meek) and formed, alongside Mr. Furia (Mr. Fury), The Pinker Tones. The duo has recorded numerous discs, published books, and toured the world performing concerts.
